Corporate Responsibility (CR) is a modern term rooted in an old ideal. When Hamilton Carhartt started his company in 1889, he provided factory workers with comfortable surroundings, good working conditions, and a fair wage based on union negotiations. In his own words, the objective was not to be profitable alone, but to do “the just and honest thing – gainful if possible.” From the beginning, Hamilton Carhartt insisted on using high quality materials to guarantee that his products were solid and reliable in protecting miners, hunters, construction and factory workers, as well as other hard-working folks. Today we look back with pride on this heritage and take inspiration from it, as we aim to live these values every day.
Cotton
Cotton is the most commonly-used fiber in every Carhartt WIP collection, accounting for 70% of our products. By 2024, we aim to ensure that all of our cotton comes from more sustainable sources.
Where It’s Made
Like most apparel brands, we work with a network of global suppliers and manufacturers. However, the main hub of our manufacturing operations is in Tunisia, and has been since 1993.
Restricted Substances
One of the main challenges for the textile industry is regulating its use of chemicals as part of the manufacturing process.
Animal Welfare
Carhartt WIP believes in the ethical treatment of animals as part of its social and environmental responsibility.
Renewable Energy
Since 2005, the rooftops of our headquarters, warehouse, and outlet in Weil am Rhein have gradually been fitted with solar panels, covering approximately ten thousand square meters in total.
